CADEK Media’s first annual AgriWorks Farmers Expo was held in Stellenbosch in November 2010. The expo was well attended by visitors, farmers and the agricultural industry at large. The mayor of Stellenbosch, Alderman Cyril Jooste, officially opened the expo and emphasised the need of such an event for the local agricultural industry. Jooste also added that the expo can also have a positive influence in the local tourism industry. The expo is well attended by the local farming community and visitors throughout the region and even attracted visitors as far as Vredendal and Kwa-Zulu Natal. The Chinese delegation from the Accredited Farm Scheme that was currently visiting the country also made the time to visit the expo. The exhibitors emphasized that the expo is the perfect platform to reach the fruit and wine industries in the greater Stellenbosch region. Many exhibitors are also impressed with the venue; the centrally situated Van der Stel Sport Grounds with its ample parking space and facilities. Record sales were reached for the first year and many exhibitors confirmed their participation for next year’s expo. Certificates were awarded to the best stands in different categories and the winners were Hoffmann Power, Alnet, Cape Winelands District Municipality and Emvula. The date for next year’s expo has been confirmed as 10 – 12 November 2011
