Even as the industry ramps into high gear and demand for hydrocarbons and drilling services accelerate, several critical issues threaten to stall our progress. Key among them in the Asia Pacific region are twin problems of an aging workforce and ensuring competency of both current and future personnel. As retirements of seasoned employees kick in, we face the challenge of recruiting talented young people, adequately training them, and ensuring knowledge transfer from experienced hands. Further, to optimize efficiency and resource recovery, the industry must perfect and implement new technologies, while enhancing HSE. Finally, the industry must overcome commercial challenges and build business cases that support solutions to all these problems. IADC Critical Issues Asia Pacific 2011 will provide an outstanding forum to consider these challenges and possible solutions. The event will be held 23-24 November 2011 at the Shangri-La Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
